The Cow Shed, Crail is an atmospheric steading which is a blank canvas space. Located on the outskirts of Crail in the East Neuk of Fife, it’s a beautiful corner of Scotland with stunning beaches, traditional fishing villages and idyllic harbours. Because of the elevation from The Cow Shed, you can enjoy sea views across the Firth of Forth to the Bass Rock and East Lothian. As a blank canvas venue, couples are given full freedom to inject their own personality. There’s the added benefit of generous on site accommodation with three cottages, all of which sleep up to four people. The Cow Shed, Crail suits intimate weddings as well as larger ones, with a capacity for up to 230 seated guests. It’s a brilliant all-rounder.
1. Styling
Having photographed a number of weddings at The Cow Shed, I’ve been impressed by the variety of styling. Every wedding has been unique. The Cow Shed is a space that allows personality to breathe. However, styling a blank canvas space can feel a little daunting. Many couples choose to get some help with this. The ladies at The Little White Cow are phenomenal at this. They’ve got a load of props for hire as well as offering a range of services to help you manage your day.
2. Grounds
The Cow Shed is a pleasingly varied space. There’s no less than five locations where a ceremony can be held. The steading marquee is generous in size, with room for up to 230 seated guests. The courtyard is at the heart of venue. Guests tend to spill into this space regardless of weather. Let’s not forget to mention the sprawling fields and epic sea view.
3. Crail + the Beach
Crail is a historic fishing village with charming cobbled streets and a miniature harbour which is sheltered by cliffs and surrounded by historic fishing cottages. The village, as well as the beach, provide excellent off-site options for photographs. A five minute drive takes you to the harbour. Another 5 minute walk and you’re down onto the impressive rocky beach. You’re spoiled for choice!
