WHY YOU SHOULD MARRY IN SCOTLAND: BY A SCOTTISH WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER

As a Scottish wedding photographer, I’ve pulled on my experience to make sure you find this post really helpful if you're thinking about having your wedding in Scotland. In this
blog, I've outlined a number of compelling reasons why Scotland is an incredible place to get married. They are the same reasons why I think being a wedding photographer in Scotland is brilliant.

>> THE SCENERY IS LIKE NOWHERE ELSE ON THE PLANET

Scotland's landscape take my breath away. Every. Single. Time. This is probably the main reason I feel so fortunate to be a wedding photographer here in Scotland. From imposing mountains, expansive lochs, evocative woodland and miles upon miles of golden beaches, I'm consistently impressed by the variety of natural beauty that makes Scotland so unique. It's truly a country set apart from others. Weddings take me around my country and I can say that no two days are the same. Honestly promisedly. If you're looking for extraordinary landscape then Scotland should be number one on your location short list.

>> FLEXIBILITY

It's brilliant how relaxed we are about the wedding ceremony. Scotland is significantly more flexible about where and when you can get married than many other places. This makes Scotland even more attractive to Scots and non-Scots alike. It's a joy to be involved in wedding days of folks from all over the world. In Scotland, the only legal requirement is that the person you expect to conduct the ceremony is an approved celebrant registered to conduct marriages. As long as that rule is observed, then you can get married in any location you like, at any time of day. As a Scottish wedding photographer I can be on a beach one day, the hills the next and the city another: *exit stage left with a smug grin*

>> THERE'S LOADS OF TARTAN AND TARTAN MEANS COLOUR

As a Scotland wedding photographer you develop a far greater affinity with tartan than in your pre-wedding life. Why? Most folks integrate tartan into their day to some extent. Perhaps I'm biased but I find the couples who book me work tartan into their day in all kinds of unique and alternative ways. Don't believe me, check out my portfolio and you'll see. So. If you're considering marrying in Scotland, get your tartan Pinterest game on. A world of colour and gorgeous fabrics await.

>> WEDDING VENUES IN SCOTLAND ARE THE PERFECT FIT FOR THE MODERN COUPLE

Scotland's wedding venues are all kinds of wonderful. Believe me. This isn't an idle statement. Check out Harper Scott Photo's Ultimate Guide to Scotland's Unusual wedding venues for the actual fact proof of what's on offer. As a Scottish wedding photographer, I could shoot a wedding in a different place every single weekend of the year and still have a bucket list of 'places I'd love to shoot at'. If you're looking for a wedding space that's inspiring; genuinely alternative, you'll find it in Scotland. Whether you want to marry in an industrial space, by the sea or hidden away in the Scottish wilderness, it's all possible here. There's no reason to settle for the mundane.

>> SCOTLAND'S CITIES ARE PACKED WITH CHARACTER - AND CHARACTERS

Sure, Scottish is landscape is applauded. As much as I embrace weddings in the wild, our cities bring another dimension to being a wedding photographer in Scotland.  We have nothing short of outstanding cities. There's Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Dundee, Inverness,  Stirling and St Andrews to name but a few. They're all unique and thoroughly deserving of a weighty analysis in a Lonely Planet guide. You'll find hipster juxtaposed with ancient ruins; edgy perfectly balanced with Georgian architecture and Art Nouveau. This wonderfully eclectic backdrop is the stuff of dreams for an alternative wedding photographer. As well as the structural individuality of each city, you'll be hard pressed to miss the warmth of the Scots who inhabit them. We're a welcoming bunch who will embrace those of you who choose to marry in our beloved country. Arms wide open and all.

>> CEILIDH DANCING IS A WHOLE LOT OF FUN

Dancing of any sort is a joy to photograph. What photographer can resist the rhythmic mass movement of folks who just want to celebrate? When you throw in the Scottish ceilidh with fiddle band things become even more spirited and exciting to capture. Ceilidh dancing is one of the main reasons for Scotland wedding photographers needing insurance! If you fancy having ceilidh coupled with more familiar songs, you'll find there's plenty of bands who can do both. It's a win win situation.

>> A DAY AT THE OFFICE LOOKS LIKE THIS

Don't be hating on me. This is my actual job. This is the point at which a full disclosure is due: being a Scotland wedding photographer doesn't feel like a job. It's an incredible privilege on every level. Why would you consider marrying anywhere else? Make it Scotland. We'd love to celebrate your wedding with you.
